Karen Edwards

Karen Edwards hails from Carnlough in the Glens of Antrim and combines storytelling with music on her Killarney D and Low D Whistles.

Karen has entertained audiences throughout Ireland from as far afield as Cape Clear Island to Derry and has a wide repertoire including traditional myths and legends as well as stories she has written herself based on the history of the Glens of Antrim.

Karen spends part of the year on the remote Uaigh Island off the West Coast of Donegal, where people uphold a tranquil way of life without the intrusion of mains electricity, a perfect environment for storytelling and writing.

During the Coronavirus pandemic Karen spent eight months on Uaigh and was successful in accessing a grant from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland to write a selection of children’s stories about the way of life for children on Uaigh. This has now been produced as a CD.

Karen has an OCN Level 2 qualification in storytelling and has a passion for stories of the sea and working particularly with young people.
