About the event

Many people in this part of the world, when they hear the name Boyne, think of the battle of 1690, its name daubed on many walls around Belfast. The river Boyne is, however, so much more than a battlefield site. It was once a great river, sacred to the early peoples of this island and the site of many stories.

Janice Witherspoon blends mythology, history and personal anecdote to take you on a journey through the Boyne Valley and along the river from its source in the mists of time, past the pool where the Salmon of Knowledge was caught, the site of the battle and onwards to the sea. This event will be accompanied by music from harpist Maebh McKeown.
